CCHIT, a 501(c )(3) organization, cites the stagnant ONC 2014 Edition certifications and “the unreliable timing of future federal health IT program requirements” as reasons for operations to end.

The organization will donate its remaining assets to the HIMSS Foundation.

CCHIT was founded in 2004 through a collaboration between HIMSS, AHIMA and (the now dissolved) The National Alliance for Health Information Technology to help bolster EHR adoption and use. In 2005, HHS Selected CCHIT to develop certification programs for EHRs and HIEs.
