Hospital officials on April 20 discovered two email accounts were accessed by unauthorized personnel on April 18 and April 19. The email accounts contained work-related reports involving patient names; dates of birth; addresses; telephone numbers; medical record numbers; Social Security numbers; health insurance information; and other clinical/diagnostic information.
Torrance Memorial immediately launched an investigation and is working with third-party forensic investigators to determine the scope of the incident. Thus far, the hospital does not have any evidence patient information was misused as a result of this incident, the notification reads.
The hospital reported the incident to the California Department of Public Health, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and HHS. The hospital is also providing potentially affected patients with credit monitoring services.
