Best Buy began offering the telehealth technology company’s TytoHome remote examination device in select locations in April. The handheld device aims to support remote diagnosis of acute care conditions and can examine the heart, lungs, skin, ears, throat and abdomen as well as measure body temperature.
After completing an at-home exam, TytoHome users can log onto Tyto Care’s virtual platform, which is powered by telehealth provider American Well, and send their results to a primary care provider for diagnosis and/or a prescription.
Tyto Care has partnered with health systems including New Orleans-based Ochsner Health System, Sioux Falls, S.D.-based Sanford Health and Charlotte, N.C.-based Novant Health to offer coverage for TytoHome users. The device costs $299 at Best Buy and each TytoHome visit is priced at $59 or less, depending on the user’s health insurance plan.
