Best and worst states for physician EHR usage

Just over half of the physicians in U.S. used at least a basic EHR system in 2014. However, eight states showed significantly higher rates of EHR usage and six others showed rates lower than the national average, according to CDC data.

Here are the eight states with higher rates than the national average, ranked from highest to lowest rate of physician EHR usage.

• North Dakota — 79.1 percent
• Minnesota
• Montana
• North Carolina
• South Dakota
• Utah
• Wisconsin
• Iowa — 64.7 percent

Here are the six states with lower rates than the national average, ranked from highest to lowest rate of physician EHR usage.

• Tennessee — 38.5 percent
• Florida
• Louisana
• Nevada
• Rhode Island
• New Jersey —29.2 percent
