The data breach affects children who were patients at either Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children or Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies in Orlando from 2009 to 2013, according to an Orlando Sentinel report.
The missing flash drive contains affected patients’ last names, medical record numbers, dates of birth, gestational ages, birth weights and dates of hospitalizations, according to the report.
The medical center learned the flash drive was missing on Feb. 12, and has now begun contacting affected families to inform them of the data breach.
“Arnold Palmer Medical Center takes this incident very seriously, as we are committed to protecting patients’ health and personal information,” said Steve Stallard, corporate director of compliance and information security at Orlando Health, in the report.
