Apple is currently running a heart study that leverages the Apple Watch’s heart rate sensor to collect data on irregular heart rhythms known as atrial fibrillation — the No. 1 cause of stroke. But Sunday’s mishap had nothing to do with the study.
Those who were watching the game and wearing an Apple Watch were warned within the game’s final minutes — when its intensity was at its highest — that they may be experiencing a heart attack.
“Apple Watch detected a heart rate that rose above 120 BPM while you appeared to be inactive during the 10-minute period beginning at 2:45 PM,” reads a photo of one fan’s Apple Watch, according to Daily Snark.
While Minnesota eventually left with the win, some fans’ hearts simply had trouble processing what they were witnessing.
