UnitedHealthcare Motion members with employer-based, self-funded and fully insured health plans can earn up to $1,000 per year by meeting daily walking targets tracked by Apple Watch. Eligible members will pay tax and shipping to receive an Apple Watch, and can apply program earnings toward the watch’s full price. UnitedHealthcare Motion members who already own an Apple Watch can also participate in the program.
Under the program, participants can earn up to $4 a day by walking 500 steps within seven minutes six times a day, at least an hour apart; completing 3,000 steps in a half-hour; and walking 10,000 steps daily.
UnitedHealthcare isn’t the only national commercial payer linking up with Apple for wearables. In August 2017, reports surfaced Apple and Aetna were holding a series of secret negotiations to discuss expanding the Apple Watch to Aetna insurance customers.
