The company declined to comment on the research to Fast Company.

Stephen Friend, MD, PhD, is administering the research. Dr. Friend is the cofounder and former president of Seattle-based Sage Bionetworks, a nonprofit that provides tools for biomedical research. Sage previously partnered with Apple on the company’s ResearchKit, HealthKit and CareKit apps.

Before Dr. Friend left Sage, the company worked with the University of Rochester (N.Y.) to create the Parkinson mPower app, which gathers information on Parkinson’s patients to better comprehend how the disease affects their day-to-day life, according to Business Insider.
