Allina Health signs $100M deal to enhance data tools

Minneapolis-based Allina Health System and Salt Lake City-based Health Catalyst, a data warehousing and analytics company, announced a partnership to unite technologies, clinical content and staff to improve health outcomes and reduce costs.

The 12-hospital, 90-clinic health system will pay Health Catalyst $100 million over 10 years in a shared-risk contract, according to the report.

Allina will share data warehousing, predictive analytics software and clinical content with Health Catalyst in exchange for the company's technology, content and deployment capabilities. As part of the agreement, Allina employees associated with the projects will become onsite Health Catalyst workers beginning this month, according to the statement.

The partnership establishes a governing committee, which will identify specific data-driven improvement projects each year. The committee will set measurable benchmarks and if the organizations make their goals, they will share financial benefits, according to the report.

Projects for 2015 include lowering sepsis risk, keeping children up to date on vaccines, preventing pregnancy complications and managing blood sugar levels in diabetics, according to a Forbes report.

Other systems using Health Catalyst technologies include Indianapolis-based Indiana University Health, Tacoma, Wash.-based MultiCare Health System, Boston-based Partners HealthCare and Stanford (Calif.) Health Care.
