Sioux Falls, S.D.-based Sanford Health has become the first health system in the U.S. to integrate a new intelligent automation technology in its molecular laboratory.

The system, known as Molecular Process Optimization, was developed by Roche Diagnostics. It combines new instrumentation with software designed to streamline molecular testing, reduce turnaround times and improve cost-effectiveness.

According to a May 28 news release from Sanford Health, the technology allows for expanded testing capabilities and better support for clinical decision-making — particularly in time-sensitive situations.

The system is expected to benefit high-need populations, such as transplant patients, by enabling faster and more comprehensive diagnostics. Sanford Health said the technology will also support efforts to make specialized testing more widely accessible.
