HHS taps AI chief: Report

Peter Bowman-Davis has been appointed chief AI officer at the Department of Health and Human Services, Politico reported April 30, citing internal HHS documents and a department official who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

Here are five things to know:

  1. Mr. Bowman-Davis graduated in 2021 from Justin-Siena, a Catholic high school in Napa, Calif., before enrolling at Yale University.

  2. According to his LinkedIn profile, he is currently on leave from Yale.

  3. Politico could not reach Mr. Bowman-Davis for comment.

  4. HHS spokesperson Andrew Nixon told the publication the department does not comment on personnel matters.

  5. Mr. Bowman-Davis is listed as a senior advisor in the office of HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

A directive issued April 3 by the Office of Management and Budget required each federal agency to appoint a chief AI officer within 60 days.

The FDA also recently appointed Jeremy Walsh as its first chief artificial intelligence officer. Mr. Walsh made the announcement via LinkedIn on May 2.
