In 2023, the health system introduced a form of AI capable of developing likely options for the next word in a sentence. This model was piloted within a case study where researchers integrated a chatbot, allowing it to provide physicians with a grade on their notes as well as written feedback pinpointing issues within the notes.

There were improvements across medical specialties with using AI-based feedback, according to an April 17 news release from NYU Langone Health. For example, note-based clinical assessments and reasoning experienced improvements of up to 45%. Additionally, contingency planning to address patients’ future needs saw improvements of up to 34%.

The full study was published April 17 in NEJM Catalyst Innovations in Care Delivery.
