For the survey, the data security company asked 853 IT professionals from a range of industries, including roughly 90 participants from the healthcare sector, about cloud adoption and security practices at their respective organizations.
Here are six things to know about cloud adoption in the healthcare industry.
1. The majority of respondents (69 percent) indicated their organization plans to move more sensitive data into the cloud.
2. Almost one-quarter of respondents (23 percent) reported their organization plans to move their entire infrastructure to the cloud within the next five years.
3. Nineteen percent of respondents said their organization planned to adopt a “cloud-first” approach to data storage.
4. Of organizations that already store healthcare data in the cloud, a minority of respondents reported visibility into various staff activities, including:
- IT staff activity: 21 percent
- Business user activity: 14 percent
- Activity of third-parties with legitimate access: 10 percent
- Provider activity: 3 percent
5. The No. 1 cloud security concern respondents cited was risk of unauthorized access (68 percent), followed by risk of malware infiltrations (61 percent).
6. The two most common methods respondents said they plan to implement to improve cloud security were improving employee training (50 percent) and tightening security policies (50 percent).
