The survey examined trends and concerns of more than 100 IT executives in commercial and governmental organizations.
Here are five key survey findings on the state of IT security.
1. The majority of respondents use an on-premises shared drive (90 percent). Approximately 54 percent of respondents reported using a private cloud, and 36 percent reported using a public cloud.
2. Ninety-two percent of respondents indicated security is an obstacle to cloud computing adoption.
3. The top three reported threats to on-premises shared drives and collaboration solutions are unauthorized sharing (65 percent), permissions management (61 percent) and privilege abuse (59 percent).
4. The top three reported threats to cloud shared drives are external attackers (72 percent), unauthorized sharing (70 percent) and cloud service provider access to data (65 percent).
5. However, the majority of respondents (61 percent) said they view cloud service providers as “trustworthy custodians” of their data.
