3 Innovative Health IT Programs at Children's Dallas

Last month, about 40 health IT stakeholders toured Children's Medical Center Dallas as part of HIMSS' Health IT Stakeholder Summit to learn how the medical center is using health IT to improve care delivery.

Notable programs include:

"Ignite!" Personal Health Record: A pilot run in conjunction with the ONC, the program offers free iPhones to rural families of sickle cell disease patients that contain the patient's complete PHR. Families then have their child's medical records on hand in the event an emergency requires them to visit another hospital, in addition to increasing patient engagement and medication adherence.

Children's Medical Center TeleNICU: The state's first dedicated neonatal telemedicine program, Children's Medical Center TeleNICU provides other hospitals 24-hour access to neonatologists at Children's Dallas to help provide an appropriate level of care regardless of patient location.

Children's Clinical Effectiveness: This program introduced embedded clinical pathways into hospital workflows using the electronic medical record system, decreasing variations in care and improving patient outcomes.
