Renton, Wash.-based Valley Medical Center said it will make service consolidations and other changes to 50% of its workforce over the next two months due to financial challenges, state and federal government uncertainties, and private sector reimbursement.
The news comes after the hospital laid off 101 employees in late March after federal Medicaid benefits halted Dec. 31 without notice.
“A fundamental operational change includes shifting staffing models in most areas from part-time to full-time, a process that impacts more than 50% of our staff across many areas of the organization,” spokesperson for Valley Medical said in a May 12 statement shared with Becker’s.
Valley Medical will be closing its Northwest Pavilion inpatient adult and pediatric units June 27. Valley Medical’s Kent primary care, maternal fetal medicine clinic, occupational health services, and pediatric neurology and pediatric sleep medicine clinics will also close June 27.
While the hospital does not know the number of full-time equivalents that will exit, employees can apply for open and future positions depending on the role, the statement said.
