Virginia Medicaid Costs Increase 134% Since 2002

Funding for Virginia’s Department of Medical Assistance Services, the state’s Medicaid program, has jumped from $3.2 billion in 2002 to $7.5 billion this year — an increase of 134 percent, according to a Washington Times report.

New requirements under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act could expand Virginia’s Medicaid population by an additional 420,000 beneficiaries in 2014, according to the report.
