Vermont hospitals expected to see nearly $3B in revenue under 2020 budgets

Vermont's 14 hospitals have received state approval to receive $2.72 billion in revenue in fiscal year 2020, according to local news source VTDigger.org.

The revenue for hospital care was authorized Sept. 11 under budgets finalized by the Green Mountain Care Board, a regulatory group responsible for controlling healthcare costs in the state.

It represents about $100 million in additional revenue compared to expectations for fiscal year 2019, according to the news website. Overall, revenue is expected to grow 4.3 percent year over year, exceeding the 3.5 percent limit the care board stipulated in its guidance earlier this year for hospitals' net patient revenue and fixed prospective payments in fiscal year 2020.

Green Mountain Care Board Chair Kevin Mullin told VTDigger.org the state had to consider an anticipated boost in patients at some hospitals, including the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington.
