Cincinnati-based UC Health has imposed a hiring freeze through the end of the year, according to an internal health system email obtained by The Cincinnati Enquirer.
The email was sent to employees Nov. 19 and said the freeze will affect clinical, nonclinical and “critical” roles, according to the report. The email did not specify what positions are considered critical. The health system cited financial pressures that led to the decision, including rising expenses, an “unfavorable” payer mix and lower than expected patient activity. The organization said it will reevaluate hiring and spending Jan. 1.
UC Health shared the following statement with Becker’s:
“As we move through year-end planning, we are prioritizing our most critical hiring needs and reducing discretionary spending to address the sustained challenges affecting health systems nationwide. We remain committed to delivering high-quality care to our patients and community, even in a challenging environment.”
UC Health operates four inpatient campuses across the Cincinnati region and employs more than 10,500 people.
