Sutter Health, a 24-hospital health system based in Sacramento, Calif., is investing $23 million to expand primary and behavioral health care across Del Norte and Lake counties.
In a June 2 news release, the health system said the investments aim to expand access and close critical care gaps for patients in rural communities.
Six things to know, according to the release:
Del Norte County
1. Sutter Coast Hospital in Crescent City, Calif., is slated to open its new Emergency Psychiatric Assessment, Treatment and Healing unit in early 2026. The unit is geared toward individuals experiencing acute psychiatric crises.
A spokesperson told Becker’s the project was awarded $4 million in Proposition 1 funding, which will help offset construction costs, and that Sutter Coast also received an initial $2 million grant from the Mental Health Services Oversight and Accountability Commission.
2. Sutter also closed escrow on a 18,000-square-foot building near Sutter Coast that the system said will expand access to primary care, urgent care and rehabilitation services. Construction is set to begin early next year with plans to occupy the space by early 2027.
3. Additionally, Sutter plans to develop 6.5 acres of land in Crescent City for workforce housing. The health system said the housing will support additional primary care, urgent care and rehabilitation services, as well as a physician residency program.
4. Combined, the 18,000-square-foot building and workforce housing represent a total $17.5 million development.
Lake County
5. Sutter also plans to build a new $5.5 million, 6,900-square-foot care center in Lake County’s Hidden Valley Lake. The new site, slated to open June 2026, will offer urgent care, primary care, on-site lab and X-ray services, and rotating specialty care in cardiology, OB-GYN and orthopedics.
6. Sutter Lakeside Hospital in Lakeport, Calif., will oversee the new care center.
