Report: Connecticut Hospitals Invested $1.2B in Community Benefit in 2012

Connecticut hospitals spent $1.2 billion in 2012 on community benefit initiatives, according to a Connecticut Hospital Association report.

moneyThose initiatives include support services for chronic conditions, healthy lifestyle education programs and mobile vans and clinics that deliver primary and preventive care. The community benefit figure also takes into account $222.5 million in uncompensated care and $868.3 million in losses from Medicare and Medicaid underpayments, according to the report. 

"Hospitals in Connecticut are deeply invested in the health of our communities," Jennifer

Jackson, president and CEO of the CHA, said in a news release. "Connecticut hospitals not only care for the sick, but they also work with their communities to identify and address key health issues people are facing, so they can live healthier, better lives."
