Katherine Smith, Director of Revenue Cycle at Baptist Health Medical Group (Louisville, Ky.): As a large multispecialty physician network, we were challenged by the use of multiple, disparate practice management systems and a vast array of provider billing requirements. This was especially challenging since we work with more than 850 providers across 100-plus practices. We needed to streamline our collections process across the enterprise to boost our operational efficiency and ensure that every dollar earned is received. By implementing a unified clearinghouse platform across disparate practice management systems, our staff now has a single source of truth for a patient’s financial history, which increases transparency and visibility across the revenue cycle. This has helped us decrease payment delays, improve collections and strengthen our ability to transition staff, and ultimately enabled us to increase our clean claims rate from 87 percent to 97 percent.
