Optum has launched a new AI-powered revenue cycle platform aimed at reducing administrative burden for health systems through better clinical documentation and coding accuracy.
Optum Integrity One consolidates several RCM functions into a single interface, allowing hospital employees to remove manual processes across multiple platforms, according to a May 7 news release. The platform uses AI to automate revenue cycle tasks from point of care through final coding, such as reviewing clinical documentation, assigning codes and capturing services for billing. This will enable more accurate documentation and billing, allow providers to receive proper reimbursement, help patients avoid surprise charges, and enable more efficient claims processing.
Fully autonomous and partially autonomous coding is available and will allow humans to oversee complex and specialized cases.
Optum partners with health systems nationwide to manage administrative services such as RCM and information technology. The UnitedHealth company said that a recent pilot program for the new RCM platform with a health system showed a coding productivity increase of over 20%.
