New York City-based NYU Langone Health recorded an operating income of $84.8 million (2.3% operating margin) up from an operating loss of $10.1 million (-0.3% margin) in the second quarter of 2024, according to its April 23 financial report.
Three things to know:
1. The health system reported a total operating revenue of $3.7 billion in the three months ended Feb. 28, up from a revenue of $3.4 billion in the same quarter last year. Management attributed the growth in operating revenue to a 4.4% increase in inpatient discharges and a 5.9% increase in outpatient visits. They further attributed a portion of the increase to a 41.7% increase in pharmacy revenue. The system reported pharmacy revenues of $289.8 million in the second quarter of 2025.
2. Total operating expenses were $3.6 billion in the second quarter of 2025, up from $3.4 billion in the same quarter in 2024. Management attributed the growth primarily to increases in salaries and wages, as well as pharmacy costs and medical supplies, which were offset by increased pharmacy and patient service revenue.
3. Net income for the quarter was $71.5 million, down from a net income of $318.1 million during the same period last year.
