Northwell cuts few roles systemwide

New Hyde Park, N.Y.-based Northwell Health has eliminated a limited number of positions across the organization as part of broader efforts to reduce spending and pace certain investments, officials said in a statement shared with Becker’s.

A spokesperson declined to share the number of affected positions but said it is “well under 1%” of Northwell’s workforce. The spokesperson added, “The impact is very limited, and our priority is supporting affected team members and matching as many as possible to open roles within Northwell.”

In May, Danbury, Conn.-based Nuvance Health joined Northwell to form an integrated regional system with 14,500 providers, 28 hospitals, more than 1,000 care locations, and more than 104,000 employees.

The latest workforce reductions follow earlier changes at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. In October, the hospital announced plans to eliminate 18 emergency medical services positions and shut down three 911 units.

Despite these adjustments, Northwell officials said the system continues to expand critical services, including behavioral health, community health programs, and initiatives addressing social needs. The organization is also adding jobs as it modernizes facilities and strengthens care delivery.

“Northwell remains a stable, mission-driven organization,” officials said. “Our focus is, and will continue to be, delivering high-quality care, supporting our team members, and meeting the health and economic needs of the communities we proudly serve.”
