Most Americans want subsidies to survive in all states

New Morning Consult data shows 68 percent of people in the U.S. believe health insurance subsidies should be available in all states.

The U.S. Supreme Court is set to hear King v. Burwell March 4, the case that will determine whether people in all states will receive health insurance subsidies under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

According to a poll of 1,781 registered voters, 63 percent of respondents favor a plan that would secure subsidized health insurance for people in all states if the high court blocks subsidies in states that did not establish their own exchanges.

Although it seems counterintuitive, the strongest support for having subsidies available in all states came from respondents in sates that established their own exchanges.

The Morning Consult data is in line with the results of a recent Kaiser Health tracking poll that found a majority of the public favors congressional action if the Supreme Court decides subsidies under the PPACA are only available to people in states that established their own exchanges.
