More than a year later, Utica still awaits $300M in state funds for hospital

The New York State Department of Health has yet to provide $300 million it allocated a year and a half ago to build a hospital in Utica, N.Y., The Post-Standard reports.

There currently is no established deadline for granting and doling out the funds, as the process for doing so is undergoing development, according to the report.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) cut funding for the hospital from the state budget last year, but restored it in April.

The proposed $500 million to $600 million hospital will combine Utica-based facilities St. Elizabeth Medical Center and Faxton St. Luke's Hospital, both managed by Mohawk Valley Health Systems in New Hartford, N.Y. Mohawk has begun requesting architect proposals, engineers and construction managers despite the missing funds, according to the report.

Construction is slated to begin in 2018.
