The hospital was fined $871,122 for the alleged violations, accordinig to a CMS notice issued to Jackson Memorial Hospital on July 3.
CMS imposes fines of $5,926 per-day for hospitals with greater than 550 beds, according to the notice. The fine covers 147 days of noncompliance, spanning Feb. 7 to July 3. With more than 1,500 beds, Jackson Memorial Hospital is the one of the largest hospitals by bed count in the U.S.
Jackson Memorial, part of the Miami-based Jackson Health System, is the 15th hospital that CMS has fined for alleged price transparency violations and the first to be fined in 2024, according to data from the agency’s price transparency enforcement website.
A Jackson Health System spokesperson told Becker’s in a July 16 statement that the hospital is “urgently addressing the concerns raised by CMS to ensure full compliance.”
“As pioneers in price transparency, we have been leading this effort for many years,” the statement said. “In 2016, Jackson launched Care Quote, a tool that provides personalized estimates for over 200 services tailored to patients’ insurance details. We are committed to immediate and thorough action to uphold our standards and meet CMS requirements.”
