UnitedHealthcare, Amerigroup and Sunflower State Health Plan, a subsidiary of Centene, received the contracts, while Coventry and WellCare were the two unsuccessful bidders. The three companies will equally cover the 350,000 Kansas residents who are on Medicaid.
CMS still must approve KanCare, the reformed Medicaid program. Gov. Sam Brownback’s administration believes the program will be authorized before its planned start date of Jan. 1, 2013, according to the report.
