Los Angeles County Health System Facing $344M Deficit

The Los Angeles County public health system is facing a $344 million deficit in the fiscal year that begins in July, according to a report from the Los Angeles Times.

According to the report, the health system’s interim director, John Schunhoff, said that the deficit could reach $1.2 billion in 2011. Mr. Schunhoff said in the report that no job or service cuts are currently planned.

County officials hope that the L.A. County Department of Health Services will be able to find new sources of revenue in addition to the funds provided by the federal stimulus package, according to the report.
