The hospital’s CEO, Jerome Penner, told the news station that the revenue MCCH receives from its current agreement with Anthem isn’t enough to cover the rising cost of healthcare.
Anthem disagreed with Mr. Penner’s statement, saying MCCH’s costs are “well above average compared to other Kentucky hospitals.” Anthem told the news station MCCH is requesting payments that would increase costs three times quicker than typical wages for Kentucky workers.
The hospital and Anthem have until Feb. 15 to negotiate a new contract, or Anthem members could face higher out-of-pocket costs to access MCCH services. Mr. Penner told WPSD he thinks the two organizations will come to an agreement.
