Last week, HHS announced it would postpone the date for when certain healthcare entities have to comply with ICD-10, although no specifics of a new compliance date have been revealed. CHIME argued a prolonged ICD-10 implementation delay “will create more problems than it would solve.”
CHIME also cautioned that HHS must keep physicians and hospitals on the same compliance date. “If the postponement process requires physicians to meet one compliance date and hospitals a different date, unnecessary costs will be incurred,” wrote CHIME President and CEO Richard Correll. “In order for the ICD-10 conversion to go as smoothly as possible, all segments of the provider community need to be in lockstep.”
