The decision to suspend certain services and stop accepting new patients came after MetroSouth Medical Center’s independent general surgery group submitted its resignation. The physician group covering oncology and emergency services will end services at the hospital later this month, a hospital spokesperson told the Chicago Sun-Times.
MetroSouth Medical Center told employees in August that the facility would close Sept. 30, but the hospital is staying open longer than expected after a state board postponed a decision on whether to approve the closure Sept. 17.
