Los Angeles-based Pipeline Health revealed plans to close Westlake Hospital in February, a few weeks after acquiring the 230-bed hospital from Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare. The hospital began winding down services in April, but the process was halted when a Cook County Circuit Court judge ruled that the hospital must stay open pending the outcome of a lawsuit filed by the village of Melrose Park.

Westlake Hospital began winding down services again after filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy liquidation Aug. 6. The village of Melrose Park and the Cook County state’s attorney’s office filed a motion in Cook County Circuit Court arguing Pipeline is defying the court’s order to remain open. The motion will be addressed at a hearing on Aug. 9.

In documents filed in the bankruptcy case, Pipeline said Westlake Hospital lost up to $2.7 million in July.
