This would be the second round of grants states can apply for in order to invest in health IT to deploy such health insurance exchanges. Health insurance exchanges, which are required to be up and running by 2014, are meant to assist individuals and businesses in finding and comparing health insurance options.
The first round of grants, doled out last July, totaled $51 million. Each state was eligible to receive $1 million in order to research and plan their respective health insurance exchanges and determine other operational and governance procedures. The second round of grants would be used to help the progress states have been making in establishing the exchanges.
