Hallmark Health to pay $1.75M to settle Medicaid billing claims

Hallmark Health, based in Medford, Mass., has agreed to pay $1.75 million to settle claims that it overbilled the state's Medicaid program, according to The Boston Globe.

Hallmark Health agreed to the settlement after it was discovered the system had billed MassHealth — Massachusetts' Medicaid program — for inpatient services when less-expensive outpatient care or an observation stay would have been sufficient, according to the report. The overbilling allegedly occurred from March 2008 through December 2013.

Although Hallmark Health has agreed to the settlement, there has been no admission of wrongdoing.
