Around 75,000 uninsured, low-income individuals are treated in the state’s free clinics. While the Virginia Association of Free and Charitable Clinics’ 60 facilities have an annual operating budget of $32 million, clinics provide more than $200 million in services, according to the association’s Executive Director Linda Wilkinson.

“[Our clinics] are really struggling,” Ms. Wilkinson told the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

Ms. Wilkinson added a lack of Medicaid expansion and underinsured individuals also challenge the centers.
