Country's largest tequila, taco fest to raise funds for rural healthcare

Knoxville, Tenn., is set to host what the Knoxville News Sentinel says is the largest annual tequila and taco festival in the country — and proceeds benefit rural healthcare.

Attendees pay $35 to sample tequila from vendors like Patron, Casa Noble and 1800, and local restaurants will serve up tacos and side dishes at the local Gander Mountain Store, according to the report. VIP tickets to the event will also be available for $125 and include a private tequila tasting.

Proceeds go to Remote Area Medical, which provided roughly $9.2 million worth of healthcare in 2014, according to the report.

"Many people live in fear of sickness and injury simply because they have little or no access to basic medical care," event organizers said in a news release, according to the report. "RAM responds to this need by providing free, quality dental, vision and medical care to those who cannot afford it."
