In July, President Donald Trump issued an executive order to reduce new cases of end-stage renal disease, boost the number of end-stage renal disease patients who receive kidney transplants or dialysis at home and double the kidneys available for transplant.
Part of the plans for achieving those goals involve four optional Medicare payment models: Kidney Care First, Comprehensive Kidney Care Contracting Graduated, Professional and Global.
CMS said the models aim to encourage healthcare providers to reduce cost and improve care for kidney disease patients.
Healthcare providers selected to participate in the new models will begin participation in 2020.
More information about the models is available here.
