1. In 2011, 83.3 percent of hospice patients were 65 years of age or older.
2. In 2011, 37.7 percent of patients who utilized hospice services suffered from cancer, 12.5 percent suffered from dementia and 11.4 percent suffered from heart disease.
3. Nearly 66 percent of hospice patients received care in their homes in 2011.
4. Thirty-six percent of hospice patients in 2011 received hospice care for a week or less.
5. Approximately 58 percent of hospice agencies were freestanding or independent, in 2011.
