CHC gives back to Salvation Army: 5 things to know

Plano, Texas-based Community Hospital Corp. has long given financially to The Salvation Army, and this year, the company will give $37,650 to The Salvation Army Carr P. Collins Social Service Center-Dallas.

Here are five things to know about the philanthropic effort.

1. The money is used to put a bed into an apartment for someone transitioning out of the center's shelter, and supports the purchase of bed frames, mattresses and housewares, according to a news release.

2. The Salvation Army was chosen as CHC's charity of choice when the company was founded nearly two decades ago.

3. All years combined, CHC donations — from individual employees along with a corporate match — have exceeded $223,600. All CHC employees have the opportunity to contribute.

4. Aside from monetary giving, CHC employee groups will help distribute gifts to Angel Tree families at the center in Dallas.

5. CHC President and CEO Mike Williams, who learned about The Salvation Army as a child, said of the philanthropic efforts, "CHC, [unlike The Salvation Army], is not a faith-based organization, yet our organization is filled with people of various faiths who want to reach out and help make life easier and better for others. This is part of our mission and core values, especially 'Stewardship' — which defines our individual responsibility to care for one another."
