The data, which adds to initial performance results published in November, shows increased participation and performance in QPP’s Merit-based Incentive Payment System and Advanced Alternative Payment Model tracks for 2017.
Four things to know:
1. Ninety-three percent of clinicians who were eligible for MIPS earned a positive payment adjustment in 2017. Two percent earned a neutral adjustment, while 5 percent saw a negative payment adjustment.
2. Of the 1.1 million clinicians eligible for MIPS, more than 341,000 participated in MIPS through an APM. CMS said that, “combined with the above results on [Qualifying Participant] status, indicates a desire from clinicians and practices to transition toward value-based arrangements.”
3. In addition, more than 99,000 clinicians were Advanced APM Qualifying Participants, which include ACOs.
4. Still, the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission has recommended that CMS axe MIPS due to reporting burden and the uncertainty it causes for participating clinicians.
