Glenwood Springs, Colo.-based Mind Springs Health, which operates West Springs Hospital, plans to double the number patients it can accommodate at the inpatient Grand Junction facility by adding up to 64 new beds, according to the report. The total cost of the expansion is projected to be $34 million.

According to St. Mary’s Medical Center President Brian Davidson, MD, St. Mary’s has long served patients dealing with mental health issues, but that approach is unsustainable, he told The Business Times.

“In helping to fill the funding gap for the expansion of West Springs Hospital, we are supporting Mind Springs Health’s mission and a model that is fiscally sustainable so they can better meet the behavioral health needs of our community and the care and health of those patients in the proper setting,” he said, according to the report

Mind Springs Health offers counseling, therapy and other services in 13 locations throughout Colorado’s Western Slope.
