Great Plains Health receives $5M donation for ED expansion

After announcing its $15.5 million emergency department expansion project, North Platte, Neb.-based Great Plains Health received a $5 million donation to help out with the project.

Bill and Ruth Scott were so grateful for the care Bill received at Great Plains Health's emergency department back in 2005, they decided to pledge the money as a way to show their appreciation to the hospital. The Omaha-based couple vowed to donate $5 million to the project, stipulating the hospital needed to raise $3.5 million, said Libby Lashley, director of the Great Plains Health Care Foundation.

The foundation raised $2.3 million to date and has until the end of the year to secure the remaining pledges. Great Plains Health will provide $5 million and an additional $2 million will come from the hospital foundation's investment reserves, bringing the total to $15.5 million.

The expansion will add 17 new patient rooms, six fast-track areas for noncritical treatment, a new trauma room, a contained area for behavioral health patients, an isolation room for infectious disease treatment and a private exam area for victims of domestic and sexual assault.
