After closing due to flood damage, Williamsburg Regional picks site for new hospital

Williamsburg Regional Hospital in Kingstree, S.C., designated the site for its new facility, The Kingstree News reported.

WHR had to close its doors in February following flood damage, though it built a temporary emergency room outside of the empty facility. A temporary hospital will open in October.

The "shovel-ready" 140-acre industrial park WHR selected for its new facility is off of Highway 52, north of Kingstree. Construction is projected to take two years and cost between $32 million and $60 million, according to The Kingstree News.

Seventy-five percent of the new facility is intended to be funded by Federal Emergency Management Funds.

If the previous facility's appraised damage exceeds 50 percent, WHR will qualify for FEMA funding at 75 percent of the new facility's cost. FEMA needs to complete a third inspection before granting the funds. Fundraising, grants and loans would cover the remaining costs covered. WRH has 24 months to find funding.
