Warner Thomas is president and CEO of Sutter Health, one of Northern California’s largest nonprofit integrated health systems, a role he assumed in late 2022. Sutter serves millions of patients each year across a large network of hospitals, medical groups, and care sites, with $19.8 billion in total operating revenue for fiscal year 2025.
Before Sutter, he spent 24 years at Ochsner Health in Louisiana, including a decade as president and CEO, during which the organization grew substantially in employees, hospitals, and reach. At Ochsner he championed the ambitious “Healthy State by 2030” initiative to improve population health across Louisiana. At Sutter, he has prioritized expanding access, growing the physician and care network, and advancing digital-first care.
He earned an undergraduate degree in accounting and computer information systems from New Hampshire College and an MBA from Boston University, and he is a certified public accountant and a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. He has served on the American Hospital Association board of trustees and on the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission. He is recognized as a results-oriented leader focused on access, growth and patient experience.
