Theodoros Teknos, MD

President and Scientific Director University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center

Theodoros (Ted) N. Teknos, MD, is president and scientific director of University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center and deputy director of the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center.

He holds the Jane and Lee Seidman Chair in Cancer Innovation and is board certified in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery. As president and scientific director, Dr. Teknos leads strategic, business, and marketing planning for UH Seidman and oversees all inpatient and ambulatory cancer care delivered across the University Hospitals system.

He also directs the center’s academic components and clinical trials unit and its involvement in the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center. A renowned clinician and academic authority in head and neck cancers, Dr. Teknos maintains an active surgical practice along with clinical trials and research. He has been published in more than 200 peer-reviewed journals and is a frequent presenter at major scientific meetings, and he is active in professional societies including the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Association for Cancer Research, and the American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Teknos joined University Hospitals in 2017 from The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, where he served as professor and chair of the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.

Earlier, he was chief of the head and neck oncology division in the Department of Otolaryngology at the University of Michigan Health System.

He earned his medical degree from Harvard Medical School, completed his otolaryngology residency in the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary/Harvard combined program, and completed a fellowship in head and neck oncology, skull base, and microvascular reconstruction at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
