Steven Goldstein is president of system integration strategy for UR Medicine and a vice president of the University of Rochester, where he focuses on aligning the academic health system’s hospitals and care sites. He previously served as president and CEO of Strong Memorial Hospital and Highland Hospital from 1996 to 2024, a nearly three-decade tenure leading two of Upstate New York’s flagship hospitals.
Strong Memorial is a major academic medical center and Level I trauma and burn center, and the University of Rochester is among the largest private employers in the region. Earlier in his career, he served as president and CEO of Rochester General Hospital and held administrative roles at the Children’s Medical Center in Dayton, the University of Nebraska Hospitals and the Nebraska Psychiatric Institute. He earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Utica College and a master’s degree in health care management from Saint Louis University. He has served on the American Hospital Association board of trustees and has been recognized repeatedly on regional healthcare power lists.
In his current role, Mr. Goldstein applies decades of operating experience to system integration and strategy across UR Medicine. He is recognized as one of the longest-tenured and most influential hospital executives in New York, with a career reflecting his deep commitment to academic medicine and regional health care.
