Stéphane Owusu-Sarpong is a fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City.
His clinical practice covers degenerative, traumatic and post-traumatic conditions of the spine in both pediatric and adult patients. Dr. Owusu-Sarpong is trained in minimally invasive spine surgery, robotic-assisted spine surgery, complex deformity correction including scoliosis and kyphosis, and motion-preserving surgical techniques.
He received his bachelor of science from SUNY Albany, where he graduated summa cum laude and received the Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence, and earned his doctor of medicine at Albany Medical College, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.
Dr. Owusu-Sarpong completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital, where he was elected executive chief resident in his final year. He went on to a spine surgery fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery, during which he was selected as one of four AO Spine North America Davos Traveling Fellows.
He is actively involved in clinical research, with more than 70 peer-reviewed articles, textbook chapters and scientific presentations to his name, and he serves as a peer reviewer for the North American Spine Society Journal and the HSS Journal.
Dr. Owusu-Sarpong is a member of the North American Spine Society, the International Society for the Advancement of Spine Surgery, AO Spine North America, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and the J. Robert Gladden Orthopaedic Society. He was recently selected as a NASS/SpineLine 2026 “20 under 40” honoree.
