Shelly Schorer serves as South Region chief financial officer of CommonSpirit Health, one of the largest nonprofit health systems in the United States, based in Chicago.
She assumed the regional role effective March 1, 2026, after nearly nine years as chief financial officer of CommonSpirit’s California division. The South Region she now leads comprises 42 acute care, specialty and critical access hospitals spanning Arkansas, Kentucky, Ohio, Tennessee, North Georgia and Texas, along with ambulatory surgery centers, imaging centers, urgent care sites and cancer centers, and more than 31,000 employees. During her tenure in California, she oversaw finance for a division of 29 hospitals and roughly 125 ambulatory sites.
Ms. Schorer entered healthcare in 1998 and has held a series of senior finance roles within the organization and its predecessors, including six years as Northern California division chief financial officer and seven years as chief financial officer for the Joplin, Missouri, and Kansas operations of the former Sisters of Mercy system.
She holds a master of business administration and is a fellow of the Healthcare Financial Management Association. Ms. Schorer is a frequent participant in Becker’s finance programming.
